Strategic Overview

The South African government, through its Transnet and Spoornet utilities, has to spend upwards of R100 billion in order to replace existing passenger and cargo locomotive networks. Siemens is well positioned through its technological innovation and its current contracts to be a preferred partner in the acquisition process.

The Government of South Africa, through Eskom, has embarked on a significant capital expenditure program to increase their energy capacity. Siemens, as one of the key suppliers to Eskom, with its expertise in the areas of green technology, intends to continue to partner Eskom and the South African government in providing a reliable energy supply base for the growing needs of South Africa as well as similar power utilities and governments on the African continent.

To date, Siemens has successfully implemented billions of dollars worth in supply contracts on the African continent.
