Monday, 07 June 2010 00:00 Grand Parade Traders Receive Marketing Boost Ahead of World Cup?

The Grand Parade Traders, who were relocated to strategic sites in close proximity to the Parade in order to make way for the FIFA Fan Fest, will receive a major marketing boost from the City of Cape Town ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup event by receiving business training from a well known service provider.

The traders were relocated at the beginning of May 2010 to the following sites:

  • Castle Street
  • Lower Plein Street
  • Corporation Street
  • Opposite the Drill Hall

The City, The Business Place and traders have agreed on a business support programme, which is being provided through The Business Place. Ten (10) trader briefing sessions have been arranged to help prepare the Grand Parade traders for the 2010 FIFA World Cup event.

"The trading areas that are situated either inside or near the FIFA Fan Fest on the Grand Parade will be called the 'Avenues of Africa' for the event. These sites are the gateway to the FIFA Fan Fest and will market and help position the traders strategically to benefit from the passing people. We are expecting over fifteen thousand (15 000) visitors to the FIFA Fan Fest during match days", said Alderman Felicity Purchase, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Development and Tourism.

"The Business Place, whose services have been enlisted to provide the training, is a one-stop shop business advisory centre supported by Investec, City of Cape Town and Sekunjalo Investments. The training forms part of an integrated Trader Development Programme and is linked to the City's broader entrepreneurial support programmes.

The following topics will be covered:

  • customer services,
  • marketing tips,
  • promotion material,
  • basic foreign language phrases and the do's and don'ts of the event.

In addition to this, we have managed to facilitate other supply chain opportunities with Coca Cola, Tri Merchandise etc.", said Thembinkosi Siganda, the City's Director: Economic and Human Development.

"These sessions have been specifically designed for the Grand Parade Traders and are being provided at the offices of The Business Place, 7 Anton Anreith Arcade, 1st Floor, Off Hans Strijdom Avenue, Foreshore, Cape Town, this week", said Lavendra Naidoo, General Manager of the Business Place.
